Don’t Fall for this Common Oral Health Myth in 2019!

And just like that, another year has passed and people are kickstarting their resolutions. Whether you’re trying to exercise more, save more money or quit smoking, Beck Dental Care of Columbia hopes that your commitment to a healthier and more mindful “you” is successful. Of course, we understand that not everyone has made a resolution because they aren’t sure where to start.

With the new year in full swing, there’s no better time than now to take your smile and oral health into consideration. After all, a reliable routine carries huge implications. Just two appointments a year and daily oral care are largely all it takes to ensure healthy and functional teeth and gums for life!

To start, we’d like to focus on a myth we believe all patients should leave behind in 2018.

One of the Most Common Myths on Oral Health

According to the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute analysis, one of the most common reasons why people do not plan to visit their dentist in the next year is because they believe their mouth is healthy and do not think they need dental care. While logically it makes sense to only go to the doctor when you need obvious treatment, the reality is our bodies aren’t always going to alert us to an issue when it’s occurring. This is especially true when it comes to oral health.

Whether it’s tooth decay or gum inflammation, dental disease is largely difficult to notice on your own. Toothaches don’t start to appear until long after the damage has already been done. This is mainly because there are no nerves in enamel. Furthermore, by the time you start to notice more serious signs of gum disease, such as bleeding or tenderness, your gums will have already experienced significant damage.

Essentially, the only way to know for sure if your oral health is in proper order is to get a professional’s opinion via a regular checkup.

Cosmetic Considerations in 2019

While we implore people to schedule checkups twice a year to maintain their oral health and make it a priority, we also want to note that your new resolution can go even further. Thanks to advancements in cosmetic dentistry, those who want to build the smile they’ve always wanted can do so. What’s even more exciting is the fact that patients don’t have to sacrifice nearly as much tooth enamel in the process. Beck Dental Care of Columbia offers three different types of porcelain veneers, two of which require very little to no enamel removal to place.

When you have a beautiful smile that you’re willing to show off, you won’t just receive more compliments. You’ll feel more confident, get a well-deserved boost of self-esteem, and carry a more positive outlook. It’s improvements like these that can make all the difference in the new year, and more likely than not you can get the treatment done in only one to two appointments!

Comfort & Care: Our Highest Priorities

Committing to routine oral care shouldn’t mean you need to sacrifice comfort in the process. When you visit our office, you can expect a relaxing environment from the moment you walk into the moment you schedule your follow-up and head home. You’re provided pillows, blankets, and television while you receive treatment. You can even take advantage of varying levels of sedation that put you in a deep state of relaxation. Whatever it takes to help you get your necessary checkups, cleanings or other restorative work, Beck Dental Care of Columbia promises it’s commitment to keeping your comfort in mind.

We hope that as the new year begins, you take yours and your family’s oral health into consideration. If you know someone who’s been putting off routine visits or a much-needed follow-up, we hope that you remind them that Beck Dental Care of Columbia is here to help. Feel free to contact us as well as leave a review on our website of your experience!
